First in the Country to earn TWO top Awards
Horden Parish Council have achieved a national first by being awarded the Green Flag Awards for Horden Welfare Park and Horden Memorial Park, and the only one of its kind to be given the Green Heritage Site Award for the Welfare Park.
Councillor Terry Jones, Chairman of the Parks and Cemetery Committee said "These parks are used for all sorts they are a vital part of the community and everyone appreciates that. It is excellent news but the thanks and credit must go to the staff who work tirelessly to keep the parks at such standard".
The Green Flag Award Scheme was launched in 1996 and is managed by the Civic Trust, an independent national charity that aims to promote communities. This year 742 green spaces were given Green Flag status while 42 sites achieved Green Heritage Site accreditation.
